BCS Global Markets (BCS GM), the investment banking arm of Russia’s BCS Financial Group, has hired Ronald Smith from Citibank as senior oil and gas analyst.
Smith will be based in Moscow, BCS GM said in a statement.
He will report to the investment bank’s head of research, Kirill Chuyko.
At Citibank, Smith was head of oil and gas research for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA) for eight and a half years. This included a seven-year period during which he continually received top rankings in oil and gas surveys by the Institutional Investor magazine.
Smith had also worked at Citigroup, Citibank’s parent company, as senior oil, gas and utilities analyst for nearly five years at the beginning of his financial markets career, which spans more than two decades.
Smith has a long record of Russia-related work.
Before returning to Citi in 2011, he was head of Russian research at Cheuvreux, a company that today is part of Paris-based financial services firm Kepler Cheuvreux.
Earlier on he had been head of research at Russia’s Alfa Bank, head of Russian research at ING, and an oil and gas analyst at Renaissance Capital.
In the late 1990s he oversaw a land reform project for the International Finance Corporation.
