Lombard Odier hires Swiss central bank deputy governor Olivier Steimer as a director

Swiss private bank Lombard Odier has hired Olivier Steimer, today’s second-in-command of Switzerland’s central bank and formerly a senior manager at Credit Suisse, as an independent member of its board of directors.

Steimer takes his Lombard Odier position with effect from January 1, 2018, the Geneva-headquartered bank said in a statement.

Steimer’s career of more than 30 years has included a series of posts at Credit Suisse Group, which he joined in 1983 and left in 2002. According to Bloomberg, he was chief executive of the group’s private banking international division in 2001-2002.

Being vice-president of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank (central bank), is not Steimer’s only current job.

He is also chairman of the boards of directors of three Swiss companies – government-owned commercial lender Banque Cantonale Vaudoise (BCV), major property and casualty insurer Chubb Limited and real estate firm Allreal Holding.

As from January 1, Lombard Odier’s board of directors will, besides Steimer, comprise Patrick Odier, chairman, Anne-Marie de Weck, vice-chairman, Henry Peter and Enrico Vanni.

Steimer will be succeeded by Swiss diplomat Jacques de Watteville as chairman of the BCV board of directors, a post that, according to Reuters, he has held since 2002 and leaves at the end of this month.
