Hires & Fires: New star trader at Merrill Lynch in Moscow?/ Cordon promoted at UBS

Merrill Lynch had declined to comment on a report that star trader Paval Naumenko has been hired by the US bank in Moscow.

The report in yesterday’s Vedomosti said Naumenko, who had worked at Renaissance Capital until last year, had been hired and would report to  Bernie Sucher, head of global markets for Russia.

However, a spokeswoman for Merrill declined to comment on the story while Naumenko could not be reached.

Naumenko was head of equity domestic sales at Rencap until last year and also worked as a trader at Bear Stearns, Credit Suisse and Troika Dialog.

Cordon promoted at UBS

Tulga Cordon, the head of emerging European equities at UBS, has been promoted to a newly-created role as dedicated co-ordinator for structured products and equity capital markets for Europe and the US.

Cordan, who joined from ABN AMRO in 2001, will act as a liaison between the bank’s structured products business RMP and equity capital markets.

UBS said there was nothing to announce yet regarding Cordan’s successor as head of emerging European equities.
