RenCap hires senior sales trader from BNP Paribas for Johannesburg team

By Andrei Skvarsky.

Renaissance Capital, a Russian investment bank focusing on emerging and frontier markets, has made an addition to its South African team by hiring Jon Oosthuyse from BNP Paribas as director/senior sales trader.

Oosthuyse will be based at RenCap’s office in Johannesburg, the Moscow-headquartered bank said in a statement.

He had been head of sales and trading at BNP Paribas since 2012, previously having spent nine years at Deutsche Bank in roles including that of head of equity sales trading. Between 1997 and 2003 he worked at UBS and KPMG in various roles, including sales trading and treasury consulting.

Oosthuyse will report to Cameron Macklin, director of equity trading in South Africa, and Mark Reed, head of equity sales trading in London.

According to Ben Samuels, RenCap’s global head of cash equities, the South African operation is one of the priorities for the company, whose business geography comprises Russia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, London, New York and Dubai.

RenCap, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in September and is part of Russia’s ONEXIM group, has made two other recruitments for its Johannesburg office since this summer, appointing Lloyd Edwards, a co-founder of South African company Atisa Securities, as director/senior sales trader in September and Francois du Toit from JP Morgan as an insurance analyst earlier on.
