Russia’s BCS makes four top hires for new London unit

By Andrei Skvarsky.

Russian broker BCS has opened a unit in London and made four senior appointments for it.

Joseph (Yossi) Dayan was hired as head of markets, Luis Saenz as head of equity and derivatives sales and trading, Mark Cleary as head of sales trading, and Tim Bevan as head of international direct market access (DMA) sales and prime brokerage, BCS said in a statement.

Dayan previously oversaw cash equity operations in the New York branch of UniCredit. Earlier on, he was head of international equity sales and trading in the London office of Russia’s Otkritie Financial Corp, had an emerging markets-focused job with Pamplona Capital Management and a hedge funds role at Merrill Lynch.

Saenz and Bevan both come to BCS from Otkritie, where Saenz headed the New York office and Bevan headed the securities division and developed the DMA and prime brokerage platform.

Saenz’s record includes roles with Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and Renaissance Capital.

Bevan, who has also had a stint with RenCap, started his career with a job at the London Stock Exchange, and was later in charge of Russian derivatives at Turquoise Derivatives (later EDX).

Cleary was a sales trader at RenCap before joining BCS, and previously worked at VTB Capital, Otkritie, Walter Capital, and SAC Capital Advisors.

“The appointment of these key individuals, along with other recent hires in Moscow in technology, operations, trading and sales, further emphasises BCS’s commitment to become a leading force in Russia’s capital markets,” said BCS chief executive Oleg Mikhasenko.
