By Andrei Skvarsky.

Hundreds of thousands of people took advantage of an annual promotion campaign by Sberbank last month which, besides a bunch of special offers, enabled Russia’s biggest lender to sell bonds worth 1.71bn roubles ($26.8m).

There were offers in a wide range of services, including medical treatment, tour operating, car sales and taxi booking as about 150 companies – Sberbank subsidiaries and firms the lender has business ties with, among them KFC, Daimler, Philips and Samsung, – joined the Green Day campaign, according to a statement from the bank.

Green Day is a new tradition and a way to mark Sberbank’s inception day in 1841. Green is the bank’s trademark colour.

This year’s Green Day retail offers were valid on November 11 and 12.

During those two days, online sales of auto insurance by the lender’s Sberbank Insurance subsidiary rocketed 100-fold.

Sberbank also processed a record number of loan applications, 760,000, with its Cetelem subsidiary receiving twice as many auto loan requests as usual.

Sberbank and its subsidiaries and partners issued 1.8m promo codes.

Green Day offers to corporate clients were available from November 11 to November 17.
