Sberbank has hired former ING banker Bart Schlatmann to oversee a planned digital overhaul that would put the biggest Russian lender’s client service on an omni-channel basis.
Schlatmann, whose job title at Sberbank is senior vice-president and chief transformation officer, worked at ING Group in various capacities for 22 years, spending his last ten years there as chief operating officer for ING Netherlands.
“He was one of the leaders behind the redesign and transformation of ING Netherlands into an omnichannel bank,” Sberbank said in a statement.
Agile project management will be one of the aspects of the planned digital reform. Sberbank chief executive Herman Gref has referred to the project as “Sbergile transformation”.
Schlatmann took up his job at the Moscow-headquartered bank on February 1.
Dutch daily Het Financieele Dagblad earlier cited an ING spokesperson as saying Schlatmann’s departure from the group had been voluntary. “He decided at the end of 2016 to leave the bank as of January 1,” the paper quoted the spokesperson as saying. The spokesperson gave no details, Het Financieele Dagblad said.
