Sberbank hires Credit Suisse banker to look after UHNWIs

Sberbank has announced it has hired Vasiliy Sofiyskiy from Credit Suisse to head the ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWI) unit in the newly set-up private banking arm of Russia’s biggest lender.

Sofiysky’s arrival at Sberbank Private Banking and other recent senior hires by Sberbank are part of a major buildout of business launched by the lender in 2011 by buying out Troika Dialog, one of Russia’s key investment banks.

Sofiyskiy “had worked for several leading financial companies in the U.S. and Great Britain” before joining Credit Suisse in 2007, a Sberbank statement said. He was posted in Zurich and Moscow when working for the Swiss firm.

On Tuesday, Sberbank said it had hired Anna Tokaeva from Swiss bank UBS for a senior role in its private banking division.
