Sberbank puts Peter Urbanczyk in charge of US investment business

By Andrei Skvarsky.

Sberbank has appointed Peter Urbanczyk as chief executive of the US unit of Sberbank CIB, the investment arm of Russia’s biggest lender.

Urbanczyk simultaneously retains his current role as head of fixed income, currencies and commodities (FICC) sales for the Americas at Sberbank CIB.

As head of Sberbank CIB USA, Urbanczyk replaces Chris Osborne, who has been at the helm since 2007 but “steps down as CEO in order to take on a wider role to develop the Sberbank franchise more generally in the US as well as to focus on his core specialism, selling equities to US investors”, Sberbank CIB said in a statement.

Before joining Sberbank in March last year, Urbanzcyk had spent two and a half decades holding investment banking management roles at some of the world’s top banks.

His employers included RBS Securities (Royal Bank of Scotland’s investment operation in the US), Credit Lyonnais Securities, National Westminster Bank and former global investment bank Bear Stearns.

In addition to his Sberbank positions, Urbanczyk is a board member at Care 2 Communities, a semi-charitable group seeking to provide high-standard and affordable health care for the poor, mainly in the developing world.
