VTB Capital hires ex-Royal Bank of Scotland researcher as chief economist for MEA

By Andrei Skvarsky.

VTB Capital has hired Raza Agha from Royal Bank of Scotland as chief economist for the Middle East and Africa.

Agha will be based in London, according to a statement from the Moscow-headquartered brokerage arm of Russia’s VTB Group.

He had worked at the World Bank, the Netherlands’ ABN AMRO, the Pakistani Central Bank, Saudi American Bank, and former New York-based investment bank and brokerage Bear Stearns before joining Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was senior economist for the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan.

Agha, who has more than 10 years’ experience in client relations, will report to Alexander Pukhayev and Dmitry Dmitriev, global co-heads of research, and to Makram Abboud, VTB Capital’s chief executive for the Middle East and Africa.

The Middle East and Africa “are strategically important for VTB Capital’s development”, a statement from the firm quoted Abboud as saying.
