The blockchain/cryptocurrency theme, which has been discussed at numerous meetings across the world, is going to be raised again in a month’s time, this time round in an increasingly crypto-friendly country – at Blockchain and Bitcoin Conference France on July 18.
Microsoft and IBM will be among companies taking part in the conference, to be held in Paris, according to a statement from the organiser, the Smile-Expo company.
The agenda includes a presentation of Hyperledger Fabric, an implementation platform and a feature of the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger project, an umbrella open source blockchain project to support collaborative blockchain development.
The forum will also discuss smart contracts, cybersecurity and non-fintech applications of blockchain such as its use for digital identification, for proving the existence of documents, and for the independent verification of audit trails.
Companies will show their achievements at an exhibition and during pitch sessions all of which are on the conference programme.
France has adopted a consistently pro-blockchain and pro-cryptocurrency policy.
Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has been quoted in the media as saying he was “passionate” about blockchain and Bitcoin trading, as crediting France with being “one step ahead in FinTech”, and as calling for efforts to make his country “the first place of blockchain/crypto innovation” in the European Union.
France plans a law to legalise initial coin offerings (ICOs) as a form of investment, and the Council of State, the supreme court for administrative justice, has suggested cutting the tax on cryptocurrency operations to 19 per cent from 45 per cent.
Major banks such as BNP Paribas, Societe Generale and RCI Banque use blockchain, and the central bank supports startups that use decentralised technology, Smile-Expo said in its statement.
Smile-Expo, an international business event organiser, is domiciled in Russia, a country not so crypto-friendly. It is headquartered in Moscow but is also present in nearly 50 other nations. It has organized blockchain-themed events in 25 countries.
