Two suspected burglars accused of stealing valuables to a total of 180,000 Emirati dirhams ($49,000) from the house of an expat couple in a Dubai community were arrested hard on the heels of the crime, according to a Dubai-based newspaper.

The couple were away on holiday when their villa in a non-gated area in Al Furjan, a community in the port town of Jebel Ali, was broken into on the night of March 9, English-language daily Khaleej Times said.

Their son reported the robbery to the police the next morning, and on March 13 the couple were invited to the local police station and shown some of the stolen items, among them an Omega watch and some jewellery, the paper said.

A CCTV camera installed by the couple in their villa and photos of the valuables were crucial to catching the suspects, according to the daily.

The victims were due to be given back their valuables after some formalities.
