Guernsey Finance, a public-private agency for the promotion of Guernsey’s financial services industry, has appointed its first dedicated representative to South Africa, giving the role to Grant McLeod, who has had a long career in the African country’s financial sector.
McLeod’s duties will include promoting the Channel island’s financial industry not only in South Africa but in sub-Saharan Africa in general.
McLeod has spent more than 20 years in South Africa’s financial services, Guernsey Finance said in a statement.
His record includes jobs with Barclays Private Wealth, Zurich Insurance and Ashburton Investments, which is an arm of South African bank FirstRand.
“Guernsey is now a key jurisdiction for wealth managers in South Africa for funds, trusts, pensions and other corporate structures,” the statement quoted James Crawford, director of international business development at Guernsey Finance, as saying.
Today there are 28 South African-based companies operating in Guernsey, among them banking and wealth management group Investec, investment company Nedgroup and First National Bank (FNB).
