Microsoft, Sony to consider funding Russian high-tech startups

By Andrei Skvarsky.

Microsoft and Sony are among companies which will examine bids from Russian startup companies looking for investment as part of an innovative technology promotion project by Geneva-based nonprofit organisation Tech Tour.

There are also major Russian high-tech promoters on the list of potential investors approved by the organisers of the Third Russian Tech Tour, to be held in Moscow and Tatarstan capital Kazan on April 23-26.

They include nanotechnology company Rusnano, Russian Venture Company (RVC) Skolkovo Foundation – the agency responsible for building Russia’s Skolkovo Innovation Centre, – and the Tatarstan Investment and Venture Fund, according to a statement from the press office for the project.

The First Russian Tech Tour was held in Moscow and St Petersburg in 2004. The second was run in Moscow, Kazan and Tomsk in 2009 and was won by video game developer, publisher and distributor Alawar.
