The majority of respondents in a recent EmergingMarkets.me online poll expected Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to be Russia’s next president and a vast proportion thought he would have just a figurehead prime minister if he moved back into the Kremlin.
The view that “Putin and Connie the labrador” (the premier’s pet dog) will be the next ruling tandem was shared by 42% of voters.
Many expected President Dmitry Medvedev to stay around – 31% thought another era of Putin-Medvedev duumvirate was in store for the country.
As other anticipated options for a Putin-dominated tandem, 16% believed Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin would prime minister and 11% thought billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov would be handed the number one portfolio.
