Renaissance Capital has boosted its South Africa equity research team with the appointment of Zaheer Joosub as Vice President, covering the South African retail sector; and Ahmed Motara as Vice-President, covering the property sector.
Joosub joins Renaissance from Citigroup, where he has worked as an equity analyst for the past nine years. He was ranked in the top-five in the 2013 Financial Mail survey, and top three in the CEEMEA Institutional Investor Survey in 2012. Prior to covering retail, Joosub was a top-three-ranked general financials analyst for two years, and was also part of the number-one-rated banking and insurance team at Citigroup for three years. He holds a B Com Honours from WITS University and a Post Graduate Degree in Accounting from WITS Business School. His equity research coverage at Renaissance includes clothing, food, furniture and other retailers.
Ahmed Motara, who will join Renaissance on 1 July 2013, previously worked at Deutsche Securities for 10 years, where he held a number of positions, having joined as a trainee trader in 2003. After spending a year trading equities on the JSE securities exchange, he moved to the equity research department where he started his career as an analyst. In 2007, Motara started covering the property sector, and was ranked by clients within 12 months. In the 2012 Financial Mail Analyst of the Year survey, he was ranked in the top three in the real estate category. Motara graduated from Rhodes University with majors in Accounting, Information Systems and Economics.
