Renaissance Capital has poached Zoltai Szalai as managing director and head of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) from Russian rival Troika Dialog.
Szalai will lead equity and debt capital markets as well as mergers and acquisitions advisory for companies in the financial sector across Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa.
He was most recently managing director in investment banking at Troika where he led two equity offerings for Bank Vozrozhdenie, the preference share offerings for URSA Bank and the sale of Investsberbank to OTP Bank.
Prior to Troika, he worked at ING Barings and Credit Suisse First Boston in Moscow and London.
Andrew Cornthwaite, head of investment banking at Rencap, said in a statement: “Zoltan’s arrival will help us to build even further on this solid track record and to take advantage of the significant opportunities for equity and debt raising, domestic consolidation and cross-border M&A in all of our core markets.”
Troika Dialog has been hit by its second senior defection this week following the decision on Monday by Pavel Teplukhin, head of its asset management business, to leave the group after 19 years for “new horizons.”
