Russian e-payment service Yandex.Checkout being renamed YooMoney for foreign markets

By Andrei Skvarsky.

Russian online payment service Yandex.Checkout, which is owned by Russia’s biggest lender Sberbank, will rebrand itself as YooMoney for non-Russian markets.

The rebranding will be completed by December 15, 2020, before which the payment company will use both names, Yandex.Checkout and YooMoney, the firm said in a statement.

Sberbank became the sole owner of Yandex.Checkout in June 2020 by buying out the stake in it from its parent online payment service Yandex.Money.

“YooMoney now serves 120,000 online platforms and mobile apps in 75 countries,” the statement quoted the company’s chief executive, Ivan Glazachev, as saying.

There are about 20 ways to access YooMoney. They include bank cards, digital wallets, and the Apple Pay and Google Pay services.

Sberbank is also rebranding itself, gradually replacing its current name with “Sber”.
