Russia’s Sberbank has made cash withdrawals from its ATMs in Croatia and from those of its subsidiary Denizbank in Turkey commission-free for holders of Sberbank debit cards.
There will be zero commission for holders of Visa Classic, MasterCard Standard, Visa Gold, MasterCard Gold, Visa Platinum and MasterCard Platinum cards if they use ATMs operated by Denizbank in Turkey or Sberbank’s numerous branches in Croatia, Russia’s biggest lender said in a statement.
There will, however, be a commission of 0.75% for Maestro and Visa Electron Sberbank cards.
“This is the next step in the implementation of the Common Tariff Space, which will allow Sberbank customers to avoid paying commission when withdrawing cash from Sberbank ATMs abroad. At the moment, the Common Tariff Space already operates in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus,” said Sberbank deputy chief executive Sergey Gorkov.
Denizbank, one of Turkey’s top lenders, was bought out by Sberbank in September 2012 and recently took over Citibank’s extensive consumer business in the country.
In Croatia, Sberbank has branches and ATMs in all major cities, including the resorts of Pula, Zadar, Sibenik, Split, Makarska and Dubrovnik. There also are Sberbank ATMs at Croatian airports.
Sberbank holds almost one-third of the Russian banking sector’s aggregate assets and has more than 100m retail and about 1m corporate customers. It has more than 18,000 branches and divisions in Russia and subsidiaries in 20 countries.
