Sberbank has hired Andrey Shemetov, previously deputy chief executive of Moscow Exchange, as head of global markets at the biggest Russian lender’s investment arm, Sberbank CIB.
According to a Sberbank CIB statement, Shemetov will replace Maxim Safonov in his new job, which involves oversight of business both in Russia and abroad.
Shemetov was chief executive of Aton, one of Russia’s oldest investment banks, from 2008 to 2012, before joining Moscow Exchange. He had held senior roles at other Russian banks before taking the helm at Aton.
Shemetov was the winner in the Revival of Business category of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 contest in Russia.
The Sberbank CIB statement credits him with experience in setting up online trading and securities trading companies from scratch.
Shemetov has a stock market career of more than two decades behind him.
