Sberbank has hired Steven Weller, a former Barclays, Lehman Brothers and Citi banker {{{*}}}, as head of foreign exchange trading at the largest Russian lender’s investment arm, Sberbank CIB.
Weller, who joined Sberbank on March 22, is based in Moscow, Sberbank said in a statement.
He has spent over two decades working in foreign exchange markets in London, Singapore and Frankfurt.
He was head of foreign exchange for Asia-Pacific at Barclays, where worked from 2004 to 2009 and managed a team of over 25 traders.
Between 1997 and 2004, he was global head of foreign exchange spot and trading at Lehman Brothers, a role he moved to after a decade at Citigroup in London and Frankfurt.
Most recently, he has been running various personal and professional projects.
Weller’s appointment is the latest senior hire for Sberbank’s global markets team. Previous additions included Bill Beller, head of equity options trading, Robert Hagon, co-head of equity sales trading, Peter Holowka, head of e-forex, and Dean Tyler, head of international fixed income, currencies and commodities sales.
Weller reports to Maxim Safonov, head of fixed income, currencies and commodities.
