Russia’s largest lender Sberbank has appointed two of its top executives, David Rafalovsky and Nikita Volkov, as, respectively, head and deputy head of its technology unit.
Rafalovsky, who had spent 20 years at Citigroup, was hired by Sberbank in February 2018 as senior vice president, chief technology officer (CTO) and co-head of the technology unit, the so-called Technology Block.
Until then Sberbank senior vice president Volkov had been the sole head of the Block, but with Rafalovsky’s arrival at the bank he became co-head of it.
With Rafalovsky now taking full charge of the Block, Volkov had his role changed to that of deputy head of the unit.
In his new capacity, Rafalovsky “will be responsible for functional management of core technology infrastructure, enterprise architecture, and operations areas that are strategically important to [Sberbank]”, a statement from Sberbank quoted the bank’s deputy chief executive Lev Khasis as saying.
During his Citi career, Rafalovsky had started out as a lead solutions architect and moved up to the position of global head of finance and risk infrastructure technology and deputy head and CTO of global functions technology services.
