Sberbank, Russia’s biggest lender, has hired Sergey Babayan, a former senior manager at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, ABN AMRO and other banks, as head of client relations at Sberbank CIB, the Russian firm’s investment arm.
Babayan will head the department servicing major Russian corporations and their beneficiaries, according to a Sberbank CIB statement.
The former employers of Babayan, who has workled in banking for 22 years, have included Gazprombank, the banking arm of Russian gas giant Gazprom, and Russian bank MDM.
After leaving Gazprom in 2013 and before joining Sberbank, Babayan was an adviser to the chief executive of Aton, Russia’s oldest investment company, and an independent adviser on asset management and alternative investment portfolio management.
Babayan held fixed income and trading jobs at various banks, including Deutsche Bank, from 1994 to 2003. He worked in other capacities afterwards.
