Russian broker Troika Dialog has hired David Walker from Citigroup as a managing director in its investment banking division.
Walker’s appointment is the latest in a recent series of senior recruitments made by Troika, which has been acquired by Sberbank in the latter’s efforts to move into investment banking.
Walker, who took up his Troika job on October 18, reports to the co-heads of investment banking, Igor Sagiryan and Todd Berman, who is also a newcomer.
Walker was managing director at Deutsche Bank’s Moscow operation before moving to a senior London-based role at Citi, according to a statement by Troika, which credited him with building one of the largest investment banking teams in Russia during his Deutsche stint.
His track record at the German bank includes advising on a $5bn deal for Russian-British oil venture TNK-BP.
At Citi, Walker led a 40-strong team focusing on investment banking for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Besides Berman, Troika has recently hired Chris Weafer as chief strategist, Olga Klimov as global head of equity sales, and James Corrigan and Anton Malkov as managing directors in investment banking.
