Internal audit in the banking industry and a European Union directive that has been described by Bloomberg as the “broadest piece of financial industry legislation ever” will be in the focus of two training sessions in Vienna on March 8-9 for financial market participants.
The 2014 revised version of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), which is also known as MiFID II and has been described by Bloomberg as the “broadest piece of financial industry legislation ever”, forms part of the agenda for one of the sessions, OTC Derivatives, Collateral & EMIR MasterClass.
Bloomberg says MiFID II focuses on “core principles of the creation of fairer, safer and more efficient markets” and “will significantly change market structures”.
The European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), which aims to increase transparency and reduce counterparty default risks in the over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives market and is a reaction to the global financial crisis of 2007-2008, makes up the rest of the session’s agenda.
The trainer is French banker and academic Fabrice Zamboni, multi-asset manager at French public sector bank Caisse des Depots and a lecturer at Paris Dauphine University and the Paris School of Business.
Internal audit in the banking industry is the subject of the other training session, FIIA MasterClass 2018 (Best Execution MasterClass & Workshop for Internal Auditors in Financial Institutions).
Among other things, the session will deal with new regulatory challenges facing internal auditors and problems caused by a situation where staff increases in risk and compliance units lead to reducing the minimum headcount requirements for internal audit services.
The trainer is Duarte Pitta Ferraz, a Portuguese statutory auditor and academic with a career behind him that has included 20 years of senior managerial roles at Banco Comercial Portugues.
Both sessions have been organised by event manager Global Leading Conferences (GLC) and will be held on the same dates, March 8-9, and at the same location at Austria Parkhotel Schoenbrunn, Hietzinger Hauptstrasse 10-14, Vienna 1130.
